L.I. Pet Abuse Suspect Ran "Animal Concentration Camp"

2009_11_mcdon.jpg
The Long Island woman suspected of torturing and killing about 20 dogs before burying them in her backyard forced her children to take part in her animal "concentration camp," according to her son. "It was a concentration camp for the animals," Doug McDonough, the eldest of suspect Sharon McDonough's seven children, told WCBS. "My sisters and me, we got the end of it, too." Doug — who tipped off the animal rescue TV show Rescue Ink, which in turn alerted the Suffolk County SPCA — told the Post that the abuse would begin shortly after his 43-year-old mother brought a pet into her Selden home. "She would buy the dog, treat it like it was the greatest dog in the world for a few days, then they would sit in the cage until she decided to kill them. It was a power trip."

In what the Suffolk County SPCA chief considers one of the worst cases of animal abuse that he has scene in 25 years, investigators have already unearthed the remains of almost two dozen dogs from the backyard, and discovered a shepherd mix, a beagle mix, an Italian greyhound, a cocker mix, a pug, and a cat living in deplorable conditions inside. Those pets are recovering and are up for adoption.

Neighbors whose pets have gone missing fear that the suspect — who according to the Post "began to act a little off" after her husband was killed in a car accident last year — might have stolen their animals. "It looked like a real murder scene, as if they were gonna pull out dead bodies out there," said one neighbor. "The smell was unbearable. They were taking bags out by the dozen. It was crazy."

Once again proving that anyone who tortures animals will do same to humans. So, why is it they get off with little or no punishment or treatment??  mmm... Makes you think what about Mike Vick?? He is is just strolling through life as if nothing ever happened.

Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi said --"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

The deeds you do today may be the only sermon some people will hear today."

Any animal abuse not only makes me sick to my stomach, but very very angry at the perpetrators..this woman needs to pay the lawful penalty for what she has done, perhaps to other peoples beloved pets..I mean real jail time, not a slap on the wrist...and have her kids taken away from her as well...so many many sick people in this world...

This woman's behavior is a result of emotional/mental instability. It is also a reflection of the worldwide cultural belief that humans are superior to other species and have the right to use them for human concerns.

Animal Shelters are abusing animals and killing them by the thousands daily. (Read Nathan Winograd's reports.) There is no excuse for this just as there is no excuse for this woman's acts of torture and murder.

If the children are still in that home with her, that is another injustice. Children who have been taught to torture will need a very different kind of care and guidance to help them reframe their perceptions of right and wrong if it is not too late for that.

Truly concerned citizens must look at their own behavior and ways in which we support the murder of animals in shelters and the torture and killing of farmed animals. Most people are only concerned if they think an issue impacts on human health or the environment as it supports humans.

Read the Ishmael books by D.Quinn. Contact your congressional reps and demand an end to killing in shelters and get together to help build some sanctuaries. Talk with your neighbors and get connected within communities. No child should suffer in a home and not have access to assistance from other adults. Don't leave it all up to agencies.

If your animal disappears, there should be a community wide search for that animal. It should not be left up to only the animal's human to post fliers or make calls. Pay attention to all children and all the animals and their needs.

Acts of cruelty toward animals and children should be felonies but that requires that citizens press for same from their representatives. It won't happen without everyone joining together and pressing for same.

Be outraged at this but also recognize any complicity of silence you participate in regarding the treatment of animals.

This made me sick, and upset me very badly. I have to say that not only do I hope she goes to jail for this, but I hope that she winds up getting serious psychiatric help....but once she does, I hope they keep her the way she kept those poor animals.

Please, could someone let me know how to help these animals, and send a donation to help them?

Thanks,
Deb

Suspect In Dog "Concentration Camp" Case Loses Custody Of Kids

The Long Island woman suspected of forcing her children to help kill 20
dogs and bury them in her backyard lost custody of her kids yesterday.

A family court judge ordered that Sharon McDonough's children be turned
over to foster care or to the suspect's 21-year-old son, Douglas
McDonough, who first alerted the anti-animal-abuse TV show "Rescue Ink"
of the "concentration camp" for animals.

The suspect. who reportedly started acting "off" following her husband's
death last year, was also ordered to take a psychiatric exam.

Depending on the results, she may regain custody of her kids, who were
instructed to receive therapy.

The suspect's defense attorney maintains that his client is innocent:

"She's plead[ing] not guilty. The law presumes she is innocent. And she
is standing by her plea," said lawyer James d'Angelo.

In what one investigator dubbed the worst case of animal abuse he has
ever witnessed, McDonough is suspected of torturing the animals before
interring them behind her Selden home.

Neighbors, who have long complained of foul odors coming from
McDonough's house, continue to allege that the suspect kidnapped and
killed their pets as well.

When authorities searched the suspect's home, they rescued five dogs and
a cat living in deplorable conditions.

Earlier this week, the cast of the TV show "Rescue Ink" turned a press
conference on the case into a shouting match when they accused
investigators ignoring repeated calls for help from the suspect's
children and excluding her kids from the animal adoption process.

Colombian Cart Horse Who Couldn't Walk is Burnt Alive!

Columbia - horse burnt alive

Horse burnt alive in Santiago de Cali - Colombia (translated)
====================================

Apparently the animal refused to walk and that is why the owner poured gasoline over it and set it alight. Posted on Friday October 23, 2009

The incident occurred east of the capital of Valle Bonilla Aragon near the neighborhood. In a crop of sugarcane, the villagers watched as  'Paul', the carter horse from a neighbor was consumed by flames, eventually dying from burns.

"I immediately called the 123 and moved the Environmental Police personnel. It was a rough picture of animal cruelty," said Sgt Yovanni Ñáñez, commander of the Environmental Police.

The animal, a pale horse bay, about 6 years, was still alive.  He suffered burns of first and third grade in 90 percent of his body. The owner of the horse and his companion surprisingly argued that they found the horse like that, and had planned to put it out of its misery!

However, the police established that they poured gasoline over the horse and set fire to it, because it had refused to walk.

Given the seriousness of the injuries it was necessary to go to Municipal Zoonosis Center, where it was decided to apply euthanasia to prevent further suffering.

"What we are asking the community to warn that when situations of violence against animals of any species, reported immediately to 123 or phone 551 78 10," said Sgt Ñáñez, who recalled that this year the unit has handled 230 cases, among which 130 have been horses.

Dear Sir:

My letter concerns animal abuse in the city of Santiago de Cali, where a horse was burnt alive because he/she could not walk.

I strongly urge you to abolish the cart horse industry where animals suffer repeated abuse and neglect. I also request that the perpetrator of this crime be sentenced for felony animal cruelty with maximum jail time.

Animal abuse discourages tourism.

A Dog Wrongly Executed by the ASPCA

It has come to attention that the ASPCA is having an event on Wednesday evening to memorialize Oreo, the young pit bull whose life was unjustly ended by the ASPCA on Friday, November 13, 2009.  The sheer audacity of the ASPCA is stunning and mind boggling.  They are going to grieve the passing of a dog that was tormented and abused and who was given no chance for salvation.

Please join Win Animal Rights as we hold a candlelight vigil at the ASPCA, for those who really truly mourn her passing.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL FOR OREO
WHEN: Wednesday, Nov. 18th @ 7:00 PM

WHERE: ASPCA – 424 E. 92nd St.

Note: This candlelight vigil was arranged on short notice because of the event happening at the ASPCA tomorrow night.  Another event will be planned for a future date that will allow those that need more advanced notice to join us.

Please write to or phone Ed Sayres. Ask him how he can dare to hold a memorial for a dog who died because he was unwilling to consider alternatives. Ed Sayres made the decision to have Oreo killed and now he wants to have a memorial for her?  What gall!!!

Also, we have heard that Ed belives that the backlash will end in a day or two.  Apparently, he believes that the humane and animal advocacy movement will move on to the next atrocity.  Please help us prove to him that he is wrong and that the pressure is just beginning.

You can sign the petition calling for Ed Sayres’ resignation here:
