My canary is on the bottom of the cage, sleeping a lot, he has his feathers puffed up, and a lack of apetite, two days without eating, when he's awake his eyes are not fully open. Can somebody help me? I don't want him to die

He has no energy, I let him free this morning and he is not flying, he just walks. What can I do?

Dear Carmen,
I am so sorry about your little bird..   Keep your canary in a warm humid room, very quiet and dim lighting, not completely dark, not bright light.
Treat your canary like a baby canary by soaking the canary seed blend you use in hot water for 15 minutes or longer, and then cool to room temperature.  Make this soaked seed available 24 hours a day,  and change the soaked seed twice a day so that it does not spoil.  Also provide fresh organic broccoli tops, fresh organic spinach greens, hardboiled egg cut in half with the shell left on.  Also make sure your canary has slightly warm drinking water in a bowl big enough for bathing.  You should try to get your canary to a vet as soon as your bird is strong enough to travel - or at least phone your bird vet to talk with the vet tech a couple times a day until your canary perks up.  Good luck !

Please get him to an avian veterinarian before you lose him.

Hi Carmen,

I agree with Maya and Karen. Since the canary has not eaten in at least two days you must take it to an avian vet. The fact that it does not fly and is puffed up are signs of severe illness. Time is of the essence so please don't wait. Make sure that it is kept in a warm cage 80 to 85 degrees with a spot in there that is cooler so that it can move to it if it wants too. When you take it out to the vet be sure that the cage is wrapped in a large bath towel so that there are no drafts.

Good luck,

Marty
