Reply with quote | #1 | we have a pair of peach faced love birds about 3 years old. When uncovering their cage this morning I noticed some blood amongst the droppings (which looked thin, but solid). The female (?) had traces of blood around her bottom. She is feeding as normal and is lively and noisy. The cage was cleaned and up to this moment no further signs of blood. The other bird appears to be ok . Any ideas?

Hi Sue, I would take the bird to the Vet. It is not a good sign. Best wishes, Lisa |

Unlike their name -- lovebirds are not really lovebirds at all. These two birds may have been fighting. Try separating them temporarily by housing them in individual cages, but letting them out together and see if they make friends and where they end up staying. Probably each one will go back to his or her own cage. I think this solution will work out fine. |

Hello, it may be possible that she may be going to lay an egg, so just keep an eye on her so that she's not egg bound.

It sounds like she might be getting ready to lay an egg. She also could have a broken blood vessel from straining. |
