Read "Good Bird," the book, by Barbara Heidenreich, and check out her video's and magazine. If he will come to your hand, hold him gently, many times a day, feed him from your hand as much as possible, give him treats, relax, be calm, quiet and assured. He will adapt, but it will take time. Begin teaching immediately--this is the "honeymoon" stage, when he's most likely to be workable. Don't ignore him, or leave him in his cage. Get a large cage, with lots of toys, if he's not in one already. Change toys every few days to keep him occupied--lots of chewy stuff. |

Congratulations on your new addition. Just go slow with him. Don't force him to step up or do anything he seems uncomfortable with. Sit with him and talk quietly and maybe sing or read to him so he can get used to you and your voice. |

Pam, why did these people part with the bird? My guess is that she was biting. At 8 years old she is sexually mature and is quite horny. If you have an avian veterinarian, ask them about a hormone injection. |

I also have a little C2 that came to me a biting, aggressive little guy. With time and patience, he is now a sweet, soft spoken bird. These things take time... Positive reinforcement and respecting who and what they are... There are many good suggestions here and quite frankly I thing Luprone shots (hormone injections) should be the last resort and not a quick fix. They are expensive, stressful for the bird and do not always work. |

It takes time but he will come around. Food treats always help, but NO chocolate or avocados. |
