Hello, I'm new here. I have been a member of another group and we talk about the eclectus diet so much. No one yet has a 100% Eclectus Diet Plan. With the help from another group I put together this diet plan. I'm the type of person that needs to see something right in front of me to understand it. I made this graph up so if there is anyone out there that is like me you can look at this like you would a plate in front of you. It works the same way as our food pyramid. This is a very simple graph. As you know everyfood cannot be covered. That would be a book. Anyway download it, copy or share it if it helps you. This is a great group. Also, please this is just my point of view and any other views are very welcomed. We can never learn enough. Thanks

Well, one of the critical issues for eclectus parrots is to STAY with the most natural items that you can...items that have not been processed, dyed, preserved, or vitaminized...as these are the things that eventually cause serious problems with these birds (as well as other species). Also, do not feed a lot of eggs...which will result in a buildup of placque in the arteries and cause early death. Finally, do not forget the serious greens...endive, kale, and dandelion, as these foods are very important for eclectus parrots.

Thanks summer,

I have a Male & Female Eclectus.. my female keeps laying eggs but they are not fertile. They are not in the same cage for over a year.. last summer they were in the same cage .  But she lays 2 eggs, and then she will eat them in a month or two.  I put a nesting box in her cage, because if I didn't she had cracked eggs in the bottom of her cage..  Has anyone else had this problem?

A little late but...

That's a great one. I also made one up last year. Everyone seems to be able to find a good parrot food pyramid, but not an eclectus one

I would not follow that plan because it's not grounded in what I've learned about avian (including parrot) nutrition. The long term result would be a significantly shortened life span for my eclectus companion.

Good luck with it.
